For boats

Marina has more than 100 berth places on 6 long floating pontoons, many of this for visitors. It is the only marina on Cabo verde islands.

Approach

Be careful of strong winds between Sao vincente and Santo Antao, the wind usually double his force.

Approach is simple during the day and night. You have to pass (port side) the breakwater of harbour and shipyard, and then approach directly to the marinas quays. Be careful (specially during the night) of many boats on anchor around the marina.

You should contact marina Mindelo on FHV CH 72 (not 09 as written in Imray). The stuff will show you the berth place, and the red plastic dinghy may be sent to you to help in berthing. You should moor stern to quay using pick-up lines (some places has a small boys).

Marine office is located at the beginning of the marina quays.

The marina is well secured with closed gates. You need a card to open it, easy to get in office with deposit of 1.000ECV (10 EUR).

Formalities

Mindelo is a port of entry. First You have to visit marina office to check in. Then you should visit Imigration and Policia Maritima which is located in the main harbour (when you leave the marina turn left and walk along the coast, pass on the right green building where energy company is located, and then on the left  you will see the main harbour gate). Signed map you can get in marina office.  Only the skipper need to go, bearing the ships paper, all passports and crew lists. The fee (paid in immigration office) is 500ECV (5EUR). Both offices are open on weekday only at 0800-1600.

The Policia Maritime will keep the yachts paper until checkout.

If any crew member leaving or arriving the yacht by plane will need a visa (cost 2500ECV – 25EUR). The photo of this person should be also taken.

When checkout, both offices should be visited.

For crews

Shower, WC, many shops, bars.

Internet is available in the marina, but it’s poor quality and speed. Well working internet is available in Clubo Nautico (located front-left of the exit from the marina – end of the main quay, other side of the main road).

Laundry – ask in marine office or visit laundry company located near the harbour (leave marina, turn right, before blue building (Fregata market) turn left, than first road to right and walk 50 meters).

The prices in markets are more high than on canaries islands or Europe. Not all good are available, but any way you can do good provisioning.

The city is worth to visit, colonial style with African way of life are mixed. Take a walk along the coast (both directions). Many bars and restaurants with reasonable process can be found.
