For boats
Receife /
Cabanga Iate Club
Recife
is an unmissable stop and one of the best locations on northeast cost of Brazil. Usually
it is a first stop in Atlantic crossing.
Entrance to
the harbour is easy, you will pass outer and inner breakwater, with green
lighthouses at the end (north approach). If you approach from the south, pass the outer
breakwater to starboard and then turn left inside the main harbour.
Mean tide
height is 1.4m with max amplitude of 2.6.
Cabanga
Iate Club is located after the commercial harbour. The approach channel and
marina is not shown on most of charts (even electronics).
Go along
the main harbour quay to starboard until you see the thin wooden poles painted
red (starboard) and green (port) tips. This narrow channel is shallow, about
1.4 during low water. Keep slow speed or wait for high water.
The depths
in the marina are about 1.4
meters, 2.0-2.5 in some berth places. Ask the stuff where
to moor depends on your boat draft.
On high
tide a boats with maximum depth of 2.5 m can visit the marina.
Cabanga
Iate Club is the largest Marina in Recife, with about 100
places. Moor bow or stern to the floating quays. Water and electricity on the
quays.
All types
of repair works available. Slipway for lifting out boats up to 35ft. Ask in
marina office.
Formalities
If Recife is port of entry in Brazil first visit is Immigration
Office (Policia Federal) to regularize your personal documents (or visa). All
the crew have to visit office personally. It is located inside the Recife Port
area.

Next stop
(if not pass in previous Brazilian harbour) is customs (Recita Federal). There
you will fill electronic form (stuff are helpful in this). The document with
bar code will be printed, keep it to the last port in Brazil. Customs
office is located inside the Recife
Port area, between
warehouses 5 and 6. Open Monday to Friday 0800-1200 and 1400-1700.
See: http://www.wesailors.com/marina/profile/742/
Finally,
you have to visit the harbour Master office (Capitania dos Portos) which is
located outside the port of Recife, near the old town, near the Malakoff Tower
(15 minutes of walking from customs or take a taxi). Office is open Monday to
Friday 0800-1700 with an hour lunch brake about 1300.

If Recife is intermediate port in Brazil visit Immigration (Captain
only) and Harbour Office.
For crews
Club
facilities are good – showers, WC, two swimming pools, bars, restaurant,
security.
Supplies
available in the town. I suggest Carrefour with low prices, just a 3 km of the marina. Take a
taxi (5EUR).

Visit historic
old town, with many old buildings. Also a 5km long beach
is worth to visit, but during a day, because a Recife
as other cities in Brazil
has a bad reputation of safety.
Fees
Marina fee: 25EUR (46ft boat, Dec 2015),
including water and electricity.
Taxi to old
town, immigration office, carrefoure – about 4-5 EUR
