For boats

Mar del Plata is main tourist center in Argentina. It’s also the most south marina in Argentina.

The approach is easy, but it is better to keep closer to north breakwater. The entrance depth to main harbour is 4m in low water. The main harbour is full of fishing boats, and it’s forbidden to moor in main harbour.

You should contact Prefectura Mar del Plata (call sign L2O, VHF CH09, if no answer CH16) 2nm before breakwater. Ask for permission to enter the harbour. When leaving marina, ask for permission to leave the harbour.

A middle size marina is located in eastern part of harbour. A revolving bridge for pedestrian is located in the entrance to the marina. They monitor 24h VHF Ch71, call them to open the bridge.

The depth in the entance is 2.0m, it is recommended for boats to wait for high water. Depths in marina – about 2.5.

There is 5 yachts club located in marina, only 2 accept visiting yachts – Yacht Club Argentina (YCA) and Club Nautico Mar del Plata (CNMdP). Both monitor VHF CH71.

Marina is rather small with a lot of pontoons and yacht, with a little space to manoeuviring.   Be careful if it’s windy day.

If you arrive late, the bridge is close, or there is no place in the marina you can moor to one of few yellow buoy.

A way to moor depends on place – long side or bow/stern.

Electricity 230V and water on the quays.

Fuel station for boats is located in fisher basin. If you don’t need hundreds of liters and have a containers, a petrol station is located 100 meters from the marina exit (SHELL).

Formalities:

You have to visit Prefectura Naval ASAP. The office is located in Av. De los Pescadores (20 minutes of walking – turn left when you leave the marina. Take your boats documents and passports. Ask for a map in YCA office.

If it’s your port of entry/exit of Argentina the Prefectura will direct You to Customs (Aduana) located in the same street. You will have to fill several form, be patient.
