Approach
Approach
from north to the channel going west of island Toopua is well marked by
cardinal buoy then red buoys (leave to port) and green (leave to starboard). Our
charts (Navionics) do not cover precise location of this buoys. So, do a eye
ball navigation, it’s easy route.
The narrow
pass near the Hilton Hotel is 5
meters deep and well marked by gree red buoys.
You can
drop the anchor south of the Toopua
Island, at position:
16 32.0325
S and 151 45.8791 W
(bottom is
sand with some corals – try to avoid them). Depths about 10 meters.
Practically
it is not a good anchorage, open for E winds and some swell, I do not recommend
it for night staying but it is close from here (0.4NM) to very nice snorkeling
spot (Toopua corals – see http://www.wesailors.com/marina/profile/913/ ). We did a stop here for 2 hours and had very
nice snorkeling.
For crews
Excellent snorkeling
spot at position:
16 31.9167
S and 151 45.4988 W – there are small mooring buoys for your dinghy.
