ANCHORAGE

This is designated yacht anchorage. It’s only 1.25 nautical miles from Nuku’alofa, and is better and more sheltered. The anchorage has a sandy bottom and good holding. Anchorage is well sheltered during SE-E-NE-N winds. Located near Big Mama Yacht Club at south corner of the island. Drop the anchor at position:

21 07.579’ S and 175 09.689’W (sand bottom, depth 17 m).

BIG MAMA YACHT CLUB

Ana and Earle Emberson run the Big Mama Yacht Club at Pangaimotu Island and welcome cruisers. Services include daily ferry services to town (10 T$ both way), WiFi hot spot (DIGICEL), laundry (8 T$ per kg), gas refills, airport transfers, local island tours. Good food and bar (cold beers) with a happy hour. It is a great place to rendezvous with the other yachties sure to be sharing the anchorage with you. They do not charge boats for anchoring off the island, and they welcome cruisers to their bar and restaurant.

DINGHY LANDING

The local ferry dock has space for dinghies and allows good access to club facilities. Small wooden floating pontoon easy to find. The head of the pontoon in for small ferry boat only.

GROCERIES

No groceries there. You can pick up a ferry to the town to do shopping.

WiFi

Digicel Hot spot is available. Tickets you can buy in the bar. 500MB cost 10 T$. Cheaper solution is to buy in the town a sim card with 2GB, cost 10 T$. Internet working good.

LAUNDRY

Available through Big Mama’s. We did not see any self-service laundromats.

GARBAGE DISPOSAL

Big bins available at Big Mama’s. Fee 1 T$ per bag.

WATER

No water. In emergency you can take some water from the restaurant. Use your containers. The anchorage is deep and clean enough to make water with your watermaker.

PROPANE

Not easy, but check with Big Mama’s

ATMs, BANKS

In the town

For crews

Visit Big Mama Yacht Club, eat and dring really good food.
The snorkeling in the anchorage is not the greatest but if you paddle to the wreck you will enjoy this place.

For beach lovers’ one ff the best beaches are available. Peace and no more tourist (except other yachties).
