For boats
Lovina is
calm and protected bay during the SE monsoon season. Lovina is a nice small town along the main
road, where you can relax, eat good Balinese food, get a drink on the beach and
slow down. It is very quiet place comparing to South of Bali.
APPROACH
There are
many unlit Fish Attracting Devices (FADs) off
the whole north coast of Bali. For this
reason, it is not recommended to travel close to that coast at night.
C-Maps and
other charts could be inaccurate and should not be trusted. The water is clear
and reefs are marked well by water colors.
Approach
from the NW-N-NE. Watch for a large
coastal reef extends 0.3nm from shore in
a NNW direction. Make sure you pass this reef in safe distance.
The
anchorage area is quite, calm, wide, with no swell, and can hold even 100
boats. Anchor in the center of the bay in 10 to 20m of water (sand).
Position of
anchorage (middle):
08 09.608S
and 115 01.307E
DINGHY
LANDING
There is a
big wooden wharf next to anchorage, you can tie your dinghy there or just go to
the beach. Do not approach by dinghy between wharf and dolphin statue, there is
a lot of shallow corals. Pass the dolphin statue and land close to the beach
bar. Note that during LW deep around head of wharf is about 0.2-0.5 m.
BANKS ATM's
There are
few Banks and ATMs along the main road.
WiFi
Many bars
and restaurants has own free WiFi Spot. Best option for all country is to buy a
Telekom SimCard with internet data.
PROVISIONING
There are a
lot of small and medium size groceries, do not expect many products, but all
basic is available.
FUEL,
WATER, LAUNDRY
There are
few local spider boats which will come to you and offer fuel, water, laundry, bottom
cleaning and other services. their prices are reasonable and they deliver goods
directly to your boat.
For crews
The waves
are calm and safe for swimming, snorkeling and diving. That's the main
attractions.
There are
many attraction in Bali. In the town you can
find many tourist offices which offers a lot of tours. You can also rent a car
with driver for one or more days and do it on your way.
I recommend
to get a cooking class in one of the restaurant and learn how to prepare popular
Indonesian foods.
Eat the
dinner in one of many restaurants along the coast. they are good and cheap.
Visit 2-3 Buddhist
and Hindu Temple.
If you like
night life you need to go the South of Bali.
We did from
Lovina 5-days trip by regular bus to Jogjakarta
on central Java to visit Borobudur and Prambanan Temple.
The ride is long, but this places are worth to visit and Lovina is very safe
anchorage to leave the boat unattended.
